Prompts for the Promptless – Ep. 1 – Wabi Sabi

prompts2“Prompts for the Promptless” was created to expand minds, share ideas, and — equally importantly — find something about which to blog.

Every episode will run for a week and feature a “concept”, complete with a super-simplified definition and suggested prompts.
Then it’s your turn– use a prompt, create your own, write a poem, post a picture, tell a story, or do whatever you feel inspired to do.

  • Everyone is welcome to be Prompted.
  • Tag your posts with “ForThePromptless” so others can find you.
  • Link back to this post so I can find you.  If you do that, and give me a day, you’ll find your link in this post and my sidebar.  And anywhere else I can put it to promote your involvement!
  • You may participate as many times as you’d like.

Wabi-sabi is the beauty of the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is the beauty of things unconventional and modest.  It’s not just a style of art, it’s a world view.

“Wabi-sabi is a way of seeing the world that is at the heart of Japanese culture. It finds beauty and harmony in what is simple, imperfect, modest, natural, and mysterious. It can be a little dark, but it is also warm and comfortable. It may be best understood as a feeling, rather than as an idea.” – Mark Reibstein and Ed Young

    • :D Thanks, me too! For all I know, it’ll just be my post(s)… but it’ll be fun either way. I’ve been looking for a way to present these “concepts” that I love as blog posts without being pointless…. and when a few people in my feedback post suggested issuing challenges, I thought I’d combine those ideas. :) We’ll see how it goes!!

      • So… I started off well – writing about a man who had “something left uncompleted” in his past, but as usual, my story went off in it’s own direction and the man ended up trying to finish his ‘unfinished business.’ Oh well – maybe I’ll do better next time!

        • I’m counting it, unless you don’t want me to in which case I’ll unlist it… but I think the whole point of a prompt is to inspire a post. :) Thanks for participating. :D

      • OK, I need not to be finding out about challenges in their very first week, therefore right in at the beginning, and for them not to be interesting challenges too, so I don’t have to think about them at all & can get on with my day and not composing posts on WordPress!!

We all have ironing to do don’t you know!!

        • Haha! :D Well, apparently for the ironing, we only have to spritz our cloths evenly with water and let them hang dry. For cottons, at least. (Thanks to the comment from the ever-amazing PonderingSpawned.com on my last post griping about ironing.) :) As far as this prompt goes, there’ll be another one in a week… so if you miss this one, it’s all good. We’ll still be saving you a spot! :D

  3. Love this idea! My problem is usually the opposite (I’m always trying to narrow down the things I want to write about), but it’s also helpful to hear other ideas besides my own! I particularly like the wabi-sabi prompt; it’s a concept that has intrigued me for years.

    • :D Thanks! Yes, I have the opposite problem, too. Sometimes I feel like I have a million posts in a day… but I get asked a lot of questions, the 3rd most popular is “Where do you get your blog post ideas?” I think a lot of the time, they’re based on concepts. I mean, someone could have an entire blog dedicated to just wabi-sabi beauty. So, I decided… if it helps others post, and gives me an opportunity to share some of my favorite concepts… it’s worth doing, right? :D

        • Only just saw this… LooneyAtoms or Day One or Barbara, all fine xxxx

Ps have you seen my post about my blogger profile? I know you have been a bit busy… It’s directly after my Wabi-Sabi one :)

          • :) I saw it! It reminded me that I never wrote that follow up post about why the colors represented the personality type, haha. :) Well, I wrote it, it’s just insanely long… it needs to be sorted and cut down.

It also reminded me that I don’t know my colors, haha! Do you have a picture of what means cornflower blue to you? Something you can email me or link me to? I’d be happy to make you a custom one! :)
