I met my first Lorax
when I was just two,
via recycled-paper
fashioned into a zoo.
Some called it a story…
I said booklayoo.
I give Seussian names
to wonders so sweet–
because I first found them
on Mulberry Street!
There’s a Seuss for each book–
for each favorite show.
Like the Lost Hobbit Toe,
How Vulcans Grow,
and that silly couple–
Big Hair, Big Doh.
They like to be Seussed
because being real is a treat–
and they exist only
on Mulberry Street!
You won’t find the street
on an old busy map–
though you might find your way
if you ask mam or pap,
or if you follow a character
in your booklayoo scrap.
It’s an unending dream,
a dance quite offbeat,
but I’ve always known it
as Mulberry Street.

Thanks to One Starving Activist, I found this challenge at Write at the Merge, honoring Dr. Seuss on his birthday of March 2nd.
Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! I mean, uh…
Birfknuckle cheer on your day so dear,
my good Seuss the Doctor–
To me… you are dear.
Egg-cell-ent ma dear
xx
Thank you! You’re egg-stremely kind!
To you I am grateful
To you I can say
“Three cheers by the plateful!”
And “Hoopla-Hullay!”
There’s nothing more apt
to brighten my day
than when Ross Murray
comes ’round to play!
Three cheers by the cupfull!
Zip zip zooray!!
love this
I got a little sniffle in my snuffle.
And that comment put a giggle in my googly eyes!
(Thanks for reading!)
Grrrrreat Seuss, indeed (one must roll the r, you see)! A windisslishly wonderful birthday wish, Rara!
Thank you, my dear, and thank you for being the impetus behind the post!
No eggsageration, Dr Seuss is the best!!! =D
Last summer we made a family trip to Universal Studios. I dragged everyone along to the kiddie rides, hitched up my summery gown and went on the One Fish, Two fish water ride. Practically every other seat had a parent 1-6 aged kid on it. My sister (teen) and brother (teen) just stood around pretending not to know me while I went round round, all twenty two and two again! =D =D
Egg-sactly!
That sounds so fun! I haven’t been, but now I really want to go!
You should!! =D
All the best people were born in March
At least 1/12th of the best people were definitely born in March! Haha
Really enjoyed this
All I can say is
Haha, yay!
I’m a huge Dr. Seuss fan, although I didn’t read them as a kid. I read them to every single other kid I have ever known.
Well done work honoring him, Rara. He would be proud.
I had to look on wiki to find out who Dr Seuss is, I hope that doesn’t make me look too uncultured… either he didn’t make it to England or I’m way too young to know these things – V
Dr. Seuss remains one of the most popular children’s authors today so it’s probably not an age thing… I guess it didn’t make it over to you! Children’s books always lose some appeal as an adult, but here’s one of the most popular ones… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQRWeZy-S8Q
Fabulous! I’m a big Dr Seuss fan, and always apply his wise advice: Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind”. A little like Guinness, the guy was pure genius.
Yep! If you only ever follow the advice of one Doctor, let it be Seuss.
(*hopes Doctor Who isn’t reading*)
That was great, Rara! Suess AND Star Trek, not sure it gets much better
Seussing and Trekking
are amongst life’s bestest things–
Many thanks for your compliments–
they give my words wings!
Rawra! That was awesome!
Daddy of twins, Trooper of storm–
Much thanks for your accolades
on my Seussy art form.
Yay!
*whispers really, really softly so that no one can hear* you know I’ve actually never read any of his books before…
Oh no!
Luckily, YouTube will fix that in just a few minutes…

I am awed by your abilities of Dr Seussness…..
I’ve been Seussy since first I could read–
so thank you much, Jackie– thank you indeed!
Seussing is easy
For proets and amateurs
Just gargle up words
In iambic pentameters
(Not to diminish
The Rarasaur’s post;
Just suggesting you try it.
You’ll love it the most!)
The best thing about Seussing
is that anything goes!
Made up words, poor grammar–
moments of prose.
Everyone should try it
at least once in their years–
it’s quite easy once you
shoo away fears!
In other words,
I agree with Ross–
the man who Seusses
like a boss.
I would try it, try it, I’m sure
if I knew that it would come out true
but My words get all garbled and blue
and Dr Seuss and the cat in the hat
would stand up and stare
and say Jackie! Jackie! how do you dare??
Rara, I’ve given you an award. Whether you decide to share it with anyone or not, is up to you. It’s just that the reasons for the award made me think of you. You can find it here at http://georgefloreswrite.com/2013/03/09/hug-award/
If nothing else, I hope that others will click on your link and come to see in you what I see.
Meow!
Yay!
I super love this
I don’t know what to say
reading this Dr. Seuss-ness
really made my day!
Thank you lucky lady!
)
Your words are quite sweet!
I’m so glad we met here
(on Mulberry Street!
DR SEUSS ROCKS! Ive written 3 poems in his style and they are my favorite of all the stuff I have created. Like this a lot.
Like you, I have been a longtime fan of Dr. Seuss. I still find his words so relevant. And it’s not just for kids!
You’re right, all Dr. Seuss works have great themes that are just as appropriate for adults as they are for kids!
Glad to know a fellow fan! Thanks for reading!
Ugh! How did I miss this awesome post! My Reader is possessed, I’m convinced. I’ve loved Dr. Seuss since I was just a little one. Now, I read him to my own munchkin.
